The 92 Elite Girls go undefeated in Asheville at the Riverside Shootout. The team scored 13 goals on their way to lifting the trophy without conceding a goal throughout the tournament. "The team played with a lot a skill and heart" mentioned Jason Brenner, Head Coach.
The tournament for the 92 Girls started on Saturday morning with a 1-0 win against HFC. That evening they beat CMSC 8-0 with a fantastic display of finishing from 5 different players. In an interview with Stef Hamilton, DOC for Triad Elite "It's great when different players on a team can score. It makes defending that team really difficult".
Sunday started with a tough game on paper against GUFC. The 92 Elite Girls rose to the occasion with a 3-0 win, sending them to the Championship game in the TOPFLIGHT division. "We were defending champions, so winning a tournament back to back is difficult to do because every team is gunning for to beat you" stated Sam Terban, Assistant Coach.
The final against SGSCA was a nail biter but a brilliant goal by center forward Chelsea Holtsclaw put Elite 1-0 up. The defense held their ground with some outstanding tackling, and the midfield and forwards kept the pressure on. With the final whistle, the Elite Girls won the Championship 1-0. "We can always depend on Chelsea to put the ball in the back in the net" stated Ivy Cocklereece, the captain of the 92 Elite Girls.
I see lots of teams throughout a soccer season, but I really think this is a team that can go all the way.
